By now, you have probably heard about the ASP.NET security flaw that was discovered over the weekend. SharePoint has been an ASP.NET based application for the last several versions, so it stands to reason that it would be affected by any problems discovered in the core platform. However, there has been some conflicting information with regard to just how (and how much) this affects SharePoint - in particular whether all versions are affected, or just SharePoint 2010.

The latest word is that you need to apply workarounds if you are using either SharePoint 2010 or SharePoint 2007. This also applies to SharePoint Foundation 2010 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, as well as SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and Windows SharePoint Services 2.0. (Updated to include confirmation of the older product impact.)

While it is good practice to harden any SharePoint environment, it is particularly critical to apply updates and security measures to public-facing sites. If you have not already done so, please immediately go to the official SharePoint Team Blog site and read their update for information about how to configure SharePoint to mitigate this critical ASP.NET issue. The article regarding this issue is regularly updated, and directly linked below:

Security Advisory 2416728 (Vulnerability in ASP.NET) and SharePoint.

Please remember, this is not "just" a SharePoint issue - it affects all ASP.NET applications, from all vendors. Even if you don't use SharePoint, you should check with your software supplier to determine what steps should be taken to mitigate any risks in your environments.

Modifying XSN Files (InfoPath) « SharePoint Knowledge Base

So the other morning apparently one of my ‘eval’ functions in an InfoPath form I was working on caused an infinite loop (my best guess: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/867436). This causes the InfoPath form to crash and then error out everytime you try and open it afterwards.

When working in SharePoint you could restore to the previous version and redo the work (without the infinite loop, or whatever caused your error and inability to use/modify the form) if you had it stored in SharePoint, but my last save was hours ago. So I decided I would extract the XSN, modify what I think the offending expression function was (eval statements) in a specific view and then put it all back together again. That way I could avoid redoing work.

First of all you CAN save a form template’s form file’s to a folder, modify them, and combine them again into an XSN using InfoPath. However you MUST be able to open the form in design mode. Doing this is pretty simple just follow the directions at the bottom of this Microsoft article: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/infopath/HA011559631033.aspx

In my circumstance I could not even open the form in design mode as it would error out. In case anyone else runs into this I am hoping this helps them.

First off an XSN file is just a container (CAB file) of many other files. So even without InfoPath this should be easy.

In order to modify these files you can just rename the .XSN file to .CAB and then extract its contents using WinRAR. You could also use renaming the .XSN file to .CAB I would be able to extract it’s contents to a folder on my local drive. (I used WinRAR for this, you could use many other programs and alternatives (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/176810).)I then modified my file and saved it. (Removing the evil eval loop.)I then created a Directive file so that I could use it to make a CAB. (This allows me to add many items to a cab rather than doing it individually.)To do this I just created a simple .txt file and populated it similar to the following:

Next you run the makecab command with the directive files. Example: “makecab /f DirectiveForXSN.txt”The MakeCab.exe file should exist in the Windows\System32 folder. If it doesn’t for any reason you can download the CAB SDK from Microsoft located here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310618 and for information on the tools located in it see this article here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/198038

And that’s it. You should now have a corrected and functioning XSN, and resolved the error that caused InfoPath to crash each time it opened the form in design mode.

So the other thing I found was that if you have multiple Site Collections, you need to get smarter about adding users. In AD scenario you'd use AD Groups and add the AD Groups once with appropriate Permission Level. But no such thing as Groups in Live ID, so you have to add each User to all your Site Collections.

I haven't investigated User Profile Audiences yet, to see whether I can compile one that way, albeit can't add Permissions, but could Target content that way.

every job contains elements that motivate you and others that

1.- You CAN do it. Low motivation doesn’t mean you CAN’T do
something, it just means you prefer not to.

3.- Determine if "Adequate" is good enough. Is it imperative

6.- Create a system or use a tool. eg. carry a pocket tape recorder to track details.

7.- Ask for reassignment as a last case option.

When an experienced IT manager starts the job hunt, he or she must come up with a personal marketing plan that differs from the strategy used by non-managers. Forget listing your certifications. You need to stress the successful projects on which you've worked and your technical accomplishments.

Don't list certification exams--or at least minimize the impact of this list. The average IT pro might want to list exams passed to build up a resume, but it marginalizes the real-world experience and accomplishments of a veteran IT pro.

Include examples of work, if possible. For instance, maybe you've written articles for an online magazine or built an e-commerce site. Include links to pertinent examples so potential clients/employers can see firsthand what you do.

Seek advice from managers. Recruiters, agents, brokers, and human resource personnel are all different from managers. Managers want to see results, and they usually know how to spot a weak candidate. Run your resume by some managers you know and have them critique it for you.

Ease up on the technical details. Even though you should list your technical skills, make sure the focus is on how those skills help you manage people and technology more effectively.

Stress benefits, not features. Don't just say that you devised a new off-site backup strategy for the company. Point out that your off-site backup strategy reduced hardware and labor expenses by more than 50 percent, reduced downtime substantially, and increased client satisfaction 100 percent.

Put the bottom line on top. Translate each of your accomplishments into hours saved, money earned, and other tangible results for the company

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Here's why it's dumb. No company will guarantee you a job for five years, much less a career path. To construct such a plan for yourself, you'd have

to make predictions about industries, companies, and your likes and dislikes that could only serve to constrain your choices.

So when you get asked this question, you can say: "I intend to be happy and productive five years from now, working at a job I love in a company that

values my talents" and leave it at that. Or you can say: "I hope to own this company," just to shake things up.

What are your weaknesses?

This is a job interview, not a psychological exam. It's one thing for an interviewer to ask you what you do particularly well. It's another thing to

ask what you don't do well and expect to get a forthright answer -- in a context where it's clear to both parties that you're being weeded in or out.

The most honest answer might be this: "That's for me to know and you to find out." But that won't help your chances.

What would your past managers say about you?

This is a fine question, but it's not a true interview question. It's an intelligence question.
The trick here is to say something sufficiently witty or pithy to make you stand out from the crowd, because the standard answers are so tired: My

managers would say that I'm hard-working, loyal, reliable, and a great team player. Snoozeville.

Why not try: My past managers would say that I was an outstanding individual contributor who also supported the team 100%. Or: My managers would say

that I came up with breakthrough solutions while never losing track of the bottom line. You can probably dream up something better.

The secret of good job interviewers is that they never ask traditional, dorky interview questions. They don't need to. They jump into a business

conversation that does three powerful things in a one-hour chat:

a) Gets you excited about this opportunity (or, as valuably, makes it clear that you and this job are not a good fit)

b) Reveals to the interviewer how you'll fit into the role and the company, based on your background, perspective, temperament, and ideas

c) Gives you a ton of new information about the job, the management, the goals, the culture, and what life at this joint would be like.

If any of this doesn't happen, it's a problem. If you're lukewarm on the job when you leave the interview, or if you don't feel you've had a chance

to show what you know and how you think, or -- worst of all -- if the interviewer used your time together to satisfy his need for more information

Ability to juggle work-life part of your performance appraisal??

For HR types:

TrueCareers (www.truecareers.com) announced the results of its most recent survey of workers. It discovered that work-life balance is fast becoming “the impossible dream.” The majority of respondents reported that they are spending more time in the office than at home these days. Over a third (35%) said that worries at work have caused them to sacrifice some of their personal life. Yet, over half (54%) also said that their employers encourage them to have a life outside of the office. Whether the imbalance is self-imposed or caused by employers, however, the net effect is the same: Damaged morale, physical and mental burnout, and ultimately, lower productivity. What should we do about it? Consider making work-life balance a part of the appraisal of one’s performance (because eventually it will affect it). Said another way, don’t let maintaining balance be a voluntary benchmark. Instead, make it one of the
competencies required for advancement
… because promoting people who lack such balance can be the equivalent of setting them and your organization up for failure.

The mandate is to provide software development services to all the wireless product groups and has successfully achieved the SEI CMM

Level 5 certification. Some of the project work that is currently underway in the centre includes :
* Development of enhanced functionality for the two way radio infrastructure that is used by public safety (police and fire

* Tools to configure the cellular subscriber units

Software projects are executed by teams ranging in size from 2 to 30 engineers led by a Project Manager. Duties that project team

BCP follows the professional practices of the Disaster Recovery Institute of Canada, taught through about a dozen courses in business continuity planning, business impact assessments, and incident command systems for corporations.

SKILLS
The candidate must be able to demonstrate competencies in the following areas:

* Telecommunications - have been working in a telecommunications organization and/or strategic consulting and obtained a wide telecommunications experience base. Experience in data communications particularly in IP edge products is required, and wireless data experience with particular focus on 3G edge products such as PDSN, HA, GGSN, and SGSN is preferred.
* Organizational – have shown the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously, work across the organization, and drive Product Management activities.
* Interpersonal - have demonstrated the ability to deal / communicate effectively with customers / partners and must be able to effectively recommend strategies.

Our client located in Ottawa has an urgent requirement for two Senior SMS Packager Specialists for a 5 month contract. The candidates

will work as subject matter experts, within the SMS 2003 implementation team, in order to ensure desktop software products are

Mandatory Experience:

Environment:

Our Client has implemented custom-built applications on Oracle and Microsoft RDBMS on NT and HPUX server platforms. Application and database development is an ongoing activity in Information Management.

The common platforms for Application development are Visual Basic 6.0, NT4, SQL-Server 7, Oracle 8 and 9, Visual Basic 6.0, Visual C++, Visual Interdev, MapX, ActiveX, Active Server Pages, Javascript, etc. SQL-Server 7 and 2000, Access 98 and Oracle 8 and 9 are the dominant RDBMS platforms in use at CLIENT.

Several applications are processing massive volumes of data and require constant monitoring and tuning to perform as per the required SLA specifications.

The DBA will be assigned to new development, maintenance and testing activities as defined by the Manager Applications and Technology Development.

DELIVERABLES

The Consultant will be required to deliver Database Administration Services in support of the Application and Technology Development team.

Specific services to be delivered include:
· Developing and implementing Data and Change Management procedures.

· Optimizing SQL-Server 2000 databases.

· Designing and configuring Production and Development SQL-Server 2000 databases.

· Troubleshooting and repairing databases and associated data extraction and loading scripts.

· Developing and updating appropriate database documentation and control processes.

· Providing database expertise and consultation as required to successfully deliver and operate the database environments in CLIENT.
